AHR Expo 2018 proved to be a record-setter.

The world’s largest showcase of HVAC and refrigeration products and technologies attracted more than 70,000 visitors from around the world, a 6 percent jump over last year, according to newly released ASHRAE figures.

The 2018 event held at Chicago’s McCormick Place in late January. The expo also included more than 2,100 vendors, 37 more exhibitors than 2017’s program held in Las Vegas, in a total exhibit space of 530,000 square feet.

AHR Expo was held in conjunction with the ASHRAE Winter Conference, which registered another 3,200 participants, the organization said.

“The Winter Conference and AHR Expo are prime opportunities for attendees to stay on top of the latest information and technology needed to work toward a more sustainable world,” Bjarne Olesen, 2017-2018 ASHRAE president said in a statement. “Lessons learned at the conference have a direct impact on the success of our industries and affords us the opportunity to extend this knowledge around the world.”

For many of the companies with booths set up in McCormick Place’s expansive show floor, the event proved a vital chances to connect with customers and prospects.

“It’s a great showcase,” said Ray Bolger, general manager for Zehnder America. “It’s fantastic to see what everyone else is doing. It’s nice to talk to people to see where we should be going and what’s working. Even with competitors, it’s nice to sit down with them, chat about the industry.

“It’s exciting to see that there’s a lot of interest in what we’re doing (with energy efficient products). It’s something that needs to be addressed – whether it’s indoor air quality or energy efficiency. … Hopefully, products like ours and competitors’ can contribute to that a little bit.”

The 2019 Winter Conference is set for Jan. 12-16 and the AHR Expo Jan. 14-16, both in Atlanta.
